The Posh Bear Story – From a Little Girl's Dreams to a Brand Built with Love

The Posh Bear Story – From a Little Girl's Dreams to a Brand Built with Love

Welcome to Posh Bear Australia! 🧸

My name is Nadia, I'm a mother of three daughters, originally from the Czech Republic.

But before I tell you where we are today, let me take you back to where it all began.

From Czechoslovakia, With Love

I grew up in Czechoslovakia during the 80s, a time of socialism when shops were often empty and choices were few. So I did what felt natural I made things myself. First toys, then clothes. My mum would sew the designs I sketched, and as I grew older, I picked up the needle myself. Eventually I trained as a seamstress, but by then I was already a mother with a little daughter who needed pretty things too.

One of my earliest and most memorable moments as a maker was in 2002, when my daughter's kindergarten group was performing in a regional flute concert. I offered to sew costumes for the children little dresses, made to measure for each child. The kindergarten wanted to pay me, but I gave them as a gift. Several mums asked if they could keep the dresses afterwards. That moment told me something important about what handmade things mean to people.

A New Home – Scotland, 2008

In 2008, my husband and I moved to Scotland with our two daughters, ready for a new chapter. Life settled, our family grew, and by 2015 my youngest daughter was already three years old a tiny, curious girl who quickly became my greatest inspiration.

I started sewing for her first little rabbits, dolls, and soft toys made from beautiful organic fabrics. Watching her face light up gave me an idea: what if this could be more than just a hobby? From toys, I moved to clothing, and from clothing, a brand was born,  NamuMade, a name created from my own name, Nadia Mück.

NamuMade grew quickly. I had brand representatives, loyal customers, and a reputation for quality and originality. My pieces were shipped all over the world from Greenland and Fiji to Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and North America.

Then one day, a Canadian agency reached out they invited me to participate in their annual children's fashion showcase in Vancouver, a wonderful event celebrating small independent makers like me. I was genuinely excited. I watched their previous shows, imagined my designs on that runway, and dreamed of what it could mean for my brand.

But Canada was far. Organising the trip with children who would need to model the clothes, the logistics, the distance from Scotland it was simply too much to take on at the time. So I declined, with a little sadness.

What I couldn't have known then was that just a few years later, we would actually be moving to Canada ourselves. Life has a funny way of writing its own story.

A Fresh Start – Posh Bear Canada, 2018

In 2018, after relocating to Canada and briefly pausing my shop during the move, I discovered something devastating someone had stolen and misused my original brand name and domain NamuMade, taking advantage of my absence to promote unrelated, low-quality products under the name I had built with so much love and care.

It was a painful moment. But rather than fight for a name that had been tainted, I chose to protect my work and rebuild trust under a new identity. In Canada, surrounded by wilderness and bears, Posh Bear was born.

I rebuilt quickly. Then came COVID.  A close friend encouraged me: 'Why aren't you sewing masks? You're skilled and you have the means to do it.' I resisted at first, masks weren't my passion and everyone seemed to be making them. But when quality masks became scarce and I was able to source beautiful fabric through my existing contacts, I listed a few. The response was overwhelming. Orders flooded in from across North America. I was sewing day and night, alone in my studio, my husband and daughters rallying around me to help with everything else. I was shipping masks to hospitals across the US and Etsy recognised me as one of their Top Sellers.

When the pandemic eased, I returned to what I love most, children's clothing. Back to beautiful fabrics, little dresses, and the joy of making something a child would wear and treasure.

Posh Bear Australia, 2024

In 2024, our family embarked on yet another adventure, we moved to Australia. Posh Bear Canada became Posh Bear Australia, and a new chapter began Down Under.

Here I continue crafting memory bears, heirloom keepsakes, children's clothing, and sustainable gifts, always made with care, story, and heart.

Every item in my shop is handmade by me, with special attention to detail and emotion. I believe that handmade things carry soul, I create them not just as products, but as personal, meaningful gifts that last a lifetime.

Posh Bear Au is the official, original Posh Bear brand. There is only one. And everything we make carries the same heart it always has.

I want to be transparent with you: I am currently facing an ongoing challenge with unauthorised use of the Posh Bear name by others. It is something I take very seriously, as it risks confusing customers and undermining the trust I have worked so hard to build. I am actively taking steps to protect and register the Posh Bear brand, and I want you to know, *Posh Bear Au is the one and only original. If you ever have any doubts, please reach out to me directly. I am always here.

🧸 If you're looking for a keepsake to remember a special moment, or a one-of-a-kind handmade gift made with love, I would love to make something just for you.

Thank you for being here and supporting handmade work from the heart. 🩵💛🩷🧸
